A game design concept in the making: Adventures In SpyGames (Update): Part #9

Hello its Bimonthly Bonus blogging time again, and its personal project update time again! Because today I'm giving another quick update on Adventures In SpyGames.

When we last left off, I discussed my struggles with progress with obtaining more first person footage for each of these actions.. Today Im giving some quick updates on where things are now.

Well things haven't gotten much better, and I havent made much progress because of it. The main problem ive had is that since ive shot real live action footage, faking it with computer generated footaqge would look off.

Initally, I was planning to use GTA V's directors mode on my PS4, but the mode was removed from the PS4 versions of the game before I could even do it.

Then I considered using the older GTA 3d games with a mod to combine the maps together and a first person mod but I thought this would look realistic enough

Then I caught wind of the phenomena of The Backroooms videos and contacted someone who worked on one of these videos to do it but he never got back to me.

Now you might wonder why don’t I do this myself? Well I would do it, if I had the skills and hardware required. I think its pretty obvious why I cant upgrade, but in case you dont know its because of the high prices of PC componets due to AI and I dont think id be able to upgrade any of it in time.

Theres also another problem, see I have a confession to make, Ive kind of been procrastinating on this. My thought process is, if I dont know how to solve a problem, and I cant think of a good solution to do it, I just kind of get stumped, keep it in the back of my mind and do other stuff until hopefully I come up with a solution.

It wasn't until a few days ago I just decided tojust forgo the realism a little and just work with what I can can get. Now I plan to use a combination of filiming in the GTA 3D games and possibly even Gmod to get it done.

Thankfully not all of that time was wasted, I did come up with a good solution for Speech Synthesis. Sticking to era apropriateness while trying to pick the best sounding voices, I landed on the TI TMS 5220 LPC Speech Chip and in tern the Echo II card.

Only trouble was getting the the software to generate the voices as ost of the tools for windows are old and unreliable. There is one app that does work, TMSExpress, but that ment I had to step into unknown terrotory: using Linux! That, was a painful experience of using virtual box, figuring out how to configure stuff and other frustrating happenings, but it does work.

So overall this project is comming to an end, ive made up my mind and Ive bassically decided that this is kind of my final run, I either get this done by the end of next week, or I just toss all of this in the trash as a good effort. either way while this project has been a trainwreck however it turns out at least ive had a good run and its at least led me to meet some interesting people, but until then that wraps it up for my entry today, as always, Thanks for reading! see you next time!
